This study aimed to describe the communication strategy in learning a second language to preschool children. Research question is how the form of the communication strategy in learning a second language generated by preschool children? The data of this research is in the form of utterances produced by preschool children either when they are in the classroom, at home, or when they are playing. The utterances are in the form of words, phrases, clauses, or sentences that can give an illustration of compensatory strategies used by children.
The data sources of this research are the kindergarten students using Bahasa Indonesia as a second language. Data were analyzed with the data in the form of tables. The table is a data analysis instrument when undertake (1) the reduction of the data in order to see the units of the data; (2) presentation of data in order to see the data as a whole. Based on the analysis of the data, it is found the forms of utterances whichare realized in a variety of avoidance strategies and compensatory strategies.
