The focus of this paper is the implementation of Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) which has been defined as “the search for and study of applications on the computer in language teaching and learning” (Levy, 1997, p. 1) and is now used routinely in a variety of instructional situations. As a result, language teachers are increasingly required to possess CALL expertise that includes both practical skills and a thorough understanding of information technology (IT) theory. Teachers may need to design, implement, and evaluate CALL activities in their classrooms; they may be put in charge of setting up and operating a multimedia language laboratory. Demonstrating CALL’S in promoting both fluency and accuracy in the target language as well as improving motivation and learner autonomy. By using CALL will give beneficial to the second language learner

This research was started with the development of teaching instrument. It supposed to produce suitable instrument for deferensial lesson. It also had a goal / aim to describe the effectivity of kumon methode in direct instructional and compare the result of study between class which runs method with conventional for deferential lesson. The population of this research was students 11th grade of SMAN 1 Dawarblandong for academic 2006/2007 that consis of 4 parrarel classes. The development of instructional material used a modified 4-D model of thiagarajan and friends. The process of the development it self consists of 3 levels, they are : defining, designing and progressing. Therefore, the result of it will be in the shaped of lesson plan, finishing book, primary book, student paper sheet (frame work) and report/examination. Based on the descriptive statistic analyse result, it is stated that kumon method in direct instructional is effective

THE MANIFESTATION OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING IN THE SCHOOL LITERACY PROGRAM: A CASE STUDY

The government policy on reducing English language teaching hours at schools
should be carefully responded and considered as it potentially poses a creative
way to fill the void. The literacy program, which is now being the concern of the
government, can serve as a promising alternative solution to the issues that might
arise due to the implementation of the policy. This study is aimed at narrating the
literacy program implemented at a junior high school in Surabaya, illustrating
how the literacy program can be a medium to help fill in the students’ deficiency
in English language learning at school and potentially can help enhance their
acquisition of the language. The data in this study are garnered by conducting
interviews with three teachers and one student and through classroom
observations. School documents including workbooks and book records are
gathered through a systematic data collection. The research findings demonstrate
that the literacy program has been transformed into the creative ways of
promoting English language skills through reading, speaking and writing activities
out of the school hours. This case study indicates that when the reduction of
English learning hours at school becomes a serious problem causing a decrease of
the students’ English language proficiency, the implementation of the literacy
programme can have beneficial outcomes to fill in the gap and promote the
students’ English language skills. pdf file

Linguistic Strategies as Means to Achieve Political Power Represented George Orwell’s Animal Farm

The paper attempts to scrutinize the construction of linguistic strategies as a means to get political power which are produced by the characters in George Orwell’s Animal Farm. As an author who lived at the time of social and political changing in Europe signed by the appearance of the communist revolution and the situation and condition after World Wat II, Orwell presents the efforts of the characters in producing words to provoke public and society surround them to be their followers and then supporters to reach their ambition, namely the power holder. The research applies New Criticism approach which is proposed by Michael Bakhtin who is well known as the formalism school in doing literary analysis. According to him, every word or language is not produced from the emptiness. It means that there are many messages and purposes when the word or language is conveyed by the people who have many interests as can be seen in Orwell’s Animal Farm, especially in the current political in the Europe nowadays. There are three steps of producing language which are done by the characters in the novel to get their ambition as the ruler. First is constructing language to influence others to get sympathy and then support. The  second is creating language as a means to built political power. The last is the language which is used as an instrument to defend political power. It is argued that the production and construction language by the characters represent the importance of language as a power to get their main agenda. pdf file

Innovation in Teaching Writing Folktales, Its Organization and Sentence Structure

The main purpose of learning English is to be able to communicate with colter people either orally or written. One of the communication forms is writing. The role of writing is very important in many aspects. Realizing how important writing is. this paper explains innovation in teaching writing fulktales, its organization and sentence structure. The purpose of the study is to know the organization and sentence structure in teaching writing at the university students. Students mostly don’t pay attention to the sentence structures used in writing. In this study, the writer wants to describe sentence structure to build up a good writing particularly in writing folktales. Some related theories used by the writer to analyse writing. in this study, the writer uses descriptive approach. All the words, phrases, and sentences arc described by the writer based on their organization and sentence structure. The analysis of writing is dune through collecting, classifying, reducing, selecting, displaying, and concluding some related theory on how to build up an excellent sentence structure. Clothing is one of the basic human needs besides food and housing. In relation to this important human need, entrepreneurship in dress-making is a promising prospect for those who see the good future in dress-making business. Running a business in the field needs appropriate strategies for entrepreneurship in order to open up business for other people. Those strategies include: havind ideas, having responsibility, realizing opportunities for business, having apprenticeship in one’s expertise, strong mentality, creativiti and innovation. In conclusion, to be a successful entrepreneur in dress-making, we must have courage to start, be responsible, not easily give up, and always innovative.
Abstrak: Sandang adalah salah satu kebutuhan pokok manusia semasa dia hidup selain papan dan pangan. Berawal dari kebutuhan pokok yang sangat dibutuhkan oleh setiap manusia yang hidup ini, berwirausaha dibidang busana sangatlah menjanjikan bagi semua orang yang tahu peluang-peluang bisnis dibidang busana. Membuka usaha dibidang busana dibutuhkan strategi untuk • berwirausaha yang benar agar semua orang yang mempunyai kemampuan dibidang busana tidak mengantungkan hidupnya hanya menjadi pegawai atau guru tetapi bisa membuka peluang kerja untuk orang lain. Adapun stategi tersebut adalah mempunyai ide, mewujudkan peluang usaha dan pernah magang dibidangnya, mempunyai mental yang tangguh, bertangung jawab dan kreati serta inovatif.
