ABSTRAK
Konsep student engagement dalam aktivitas akademik merupakan faktor penting yang menyumbang kesuksesan mahasiswa di perguruan tinggi. Student engagement bertindak sebagai penangkal menurunnya motivasi dan kinerja akademik di perguruan tinggi. Studi ini mengarah dari adanya kesenjangan tentang motivasi dan keterlibatan mahasiswa dalam aktivitas akademik di perguruan tinggi. Hasil studi merupakan kajian pustaka tentang keterlibatan akademik mahasiswa di perguruan tinggi. Peneliti mengarahkan studi engagement sebagai konstruk multidimensi, yang mencakup behavioral, cognitive dan emotional engagement. Penelitian student engagement dapat memperkaya karakteristik mahasiswa dalam berpikir, merasa dan berperilaku, sementara sifat engagement yang malleable, dan responsif pada situasi kontekstual memungkinkan student engagement menjadi target intervensi berkaitan dengan kinerja akademik mahasiswa.

ABSTRACT
The concept of student engagement in academic activities is an critical factor that contributes to the success of students in college. Student engagement acts as an antidote to decreasing motivation and academic performance in college. This study leads to gaps about student motivation and engagement in academic activities in higher education. The results of the study are literature studies of students’ academic engagement in higher education. The researcher directed the study of engagement as a multidimensional construct, which included behavioral, cognitive and emotional engagement. Student engagement research can enrich student characteristics in think, feel and behave, while malleable nature of engagement, and responsiveness in contextual situations allows student engagement to be the target of interventions related to the academic performance of students college.
